Children's liturgy of the word offers children from pre K - 5th grade the opportunity to hear the Sunday readings at an age appropriate level and to participate in an activity or discussion to help them understand the gospel message. Teams of two liturgists rotate the responsibility of using resources to plan the weekly lesson at the 1030am mass. The program is not separate from the mass, but is considered an extension of the parish mass with the goal of making the message more understandable and more applicable for the children. At Children's Liturgy, we read the weekly readings and follow the readings with a short discussion. Frequently an activity is done to help reinforce the message. The children then bring up the offering and rejoin the community in time to be present for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The Children's liturgy ministry serves a twofold purpose of helping children understand the reading more fully, and allowing parents to concentrate on the mass with fewer distractions.
All children pre K - 5th grade are invited to attend, whether they are parishioner or visiting. Please encourage your children to attend and then discuss the readings with them.
Children's liturgy meets September through May at the Sunday 10:30am Masses (except on the first Sunday of the month).
